COURTYARD GARDEN FOR COUNTRY HOUSE, HASLEMERE SURREY

A newly built entrance hall to the house and a change in parking arrangements required a complete transformation of this area. Tarmac paving needed to be removed and the concrete retaining wall had to be disguised.

Our design has created an elegant courtyard though which visitors arrive at the house. The walls were extended to create a gated enclosure. Concrete was faced in Purbeck walling stone. Pleached Hornbeam trees around the perimeter blend the walling into the countryside slope behind.

The courtyard has a dining and coffee table space. A magnificent blue bronze leafed sculpture is the central feature of the garden. The gilded interior glows even on the cloudiest day. Planted Box cubes and terracotta pots provide all year-round structure, with a planting scheme of deep pink and lime. Good lighting adds to all year-round enjoyment of the space.
