This large, south facing garden on a chalk slope, needed a fresh look now the children had left home. Our clients wanted a more elegant space in which to entertain. Although a large plot, views were blocked off by overgrown beds, with no interesting vistas.
Our design created an outdoor dining and cooking terrace, with a separate sofa seating area under the shade of a Bay tree. A bubbling pot water feature creates sound and movement on the main terrace. There is now a lovely view from the house, looking across the terrace, down an avenue of Cherry trees towards a seating area at the far end of the garden. A new herb garden is approached under a delicate wire arch. A curved retaining wall defines the entertaining space and provides an opportunity for planting at two levels. Soft blues, pinks and white flowers and grey leafed plants suited to chalky soil soften the walls.
